it's been a long time since i've updated this thing. many weeks, full of strikes, the chaos when they ended, bronchitis, i don't know. it seems like longer than it actually was. i'm leaving bordeaux on a train to paris at 3 tomorrow and flying home on saturday. i should get there around 7 or 8 austin time. 2 or 3 in the morning my time. i think it's really nice the way that people identify with time zones.
i really don't have that much to tell. i'm done with translation and lit now; i have my final for my poli sci class on january 9th and finals for linguistics and didactic sometime during the last week of january. i might try to find myself a new apartment sometime in the time i'm actually in bordeaux (the other one fell through because my directors are really idiots), but i'm planning on spending 8 or 9 days in the middle of january in athens and istanbul. maybe jan will let me sleep in neoptolemou while no one's there. i don't even know where to go eat in athens. i know how to steam an artichoke.
i'm going to try to convince my academic director to let me do an independent study in the spring with my translation professor and translate an entire text from french to english. it's completely fascinating and i could actually produce something and get something out of this university. anybody read any really incredible contemporary french short stories lately? i also might take latin, if they let me. art history.
i guess i should pack and do some dishes. clean, maybe. if you're in central texas and have a few hours with nothing to do, i'll probably be at mozart's. if you're somewhere else and have a few hours with nothing to do, i'll probably have my american sim card in my cellphone. i'd like to hear some voices.
