it's one in the morning and i'm updating this thing mostly to say that it's one in the morning. and that i'm updating this thing. i have something due for my lit class tomorrow, or i might have something due for my lit class tomorrow, but i'm not going to do it. she didn't tell us what it is. plus, i don't actually go to school. i'm starting my fourth week of classes and, because i'm not french, i can't access my work at all. my professors don't call on me or look me in the eye because i'm american and i don't copy down every word they say.
it was unbelievably nice to have jenn here. it's nice to get a perspective on this city from someone that's not attempting to live in it. i still have no idea what to do. am i getting anything out of this? i want nothing more than fluency in this language and i don't think i can leave france. is anybody reading this? would you stay in a boring city with a million people that have no interest in you, in 5 classes you don't remotely care about? or would you go to paris with the 40 middkids terribles et flagrants, and run into english behind every corner?
i'm spending 10 days at the end of october and the beginning of november in italy. i've never been to italy. it should go rome, assisi, florence, ferrara, venice, bologna. then barcelona and salamanca in november. athens when i feel emotionally prepared. i'll let you know, you insatiable reader. you saturn, you. you can all come meet me and freeze in the middle of pangrati.

what i like is that you said at the beginning that you were posting at one in the morning. and then at the bottom it says "posted by callie at 4:00pm." there's something nice going on when not even the computers know what time it is. and i second jess's question: will you have time to do all of italy? it seems to me that i'm still missing that damn heel. you know, the part closest to grecia. yes, it's called grecia here. i'm not sure how i feel about it either. or about the length of this comment. i tend to really hate it when people leave terribly flamboyant comments like this. oh well. what is it in french? greces? i hope so. maybe just grece. with extra flem on the r. we'll get to see the heel when you're emotionally prepared, so before the year is out you will indeed have "done" all of italy, quasi. i think we fly out of bari to get to atene, which is at least in the achilles region. unless of course we decide to board a ship this weekend from venice. we can, you know. close comment, i suppose. and i'll see you friday. i'm posting this at 8:22 pm, by the way. i hope it registers hours from here.
